COACHES CERTIFICATIONS

Coaches clinics have been set-up.  Please check the events pages for the classes in February.  All coaches must have a sport specific certification and a Safety Class.  Your certification must be valid for the entire 2007 season.  If you need to renew your card you can do so by contacting NYSCA by e-mail, www.nays.org or 800-729-2057.  NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD TO COACH OR HELP WITHOUT CERTIFICATION.

VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS

All coches and Volunteers must complete in it's entirety the Volunteer Application and attach to it a copy of a goverment picture ID.  This must be done each year, as at the end of the season the forms are shreeded as per Little League guidlines.  IF AN APPLICATION HAS NOT BEEN TURNED IN OR IS INCOMPLETE, A COACH MAY NOT BE ON THE FIELD.

MEDICAL FORMS

All Managers must be sure that they have issued their players the Medical Forms and have them completed by the parent/guardian.  Once they are complete, the Manager should collect them and keep them secured and available during practice and games in the event of a medical emergency.  This will provide immediate contact for the parent/guardian as well as medical information needed by the ambulance and hospital.

UNIFORMS

All players, baseball and softball, must wear the League issued uniform.  Any variations or omitions will result in a player being prohibited from playing during the game.  This includes shirts tucked in and wearing of the proper hats/visors.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  Managers who do not comply will not be invited to coach the following season and may be replaced during the regular season.

SOFT-TOSS

Soft-Toss is prohibited into any fence or backstop on the Madison fields.  We have been replacing fences and backstops that have been damaged from this drill at great expense.  Soft-toss is permissible when hitting into an open area.  Remember, the player must have his or her helmet on during all batting drills.

ON DECK BATTERS

Little League rules prohibit on deck batting for ages 12 and under in all divisions, baseball & softball.  The only person who should have a bat in their hands is the person walking to the plate.  Any player with a bat who is not the batter can and will be called out, as per the rule.  This rule is for safety, so please enforce it as a coach.

INSURANCE FOR PRACTICE LOCATIONS

Madison Little League is well insured through Little League HQ policies.  However, coaches must be aware that when they are practicing indoors, in such places as Community House, Schools, etc., they are liable for the deductible if damage occurs.  Our deductible is $500 for damage.  Madison Little League will not cover the this deductible.

 PEER MEDIATION

The Madison Junior School Peer Mediation Team has made themselves available to any coach, player or their family for situations needing assistance.  The Peer Mediation Team gave a presentation to the coaches on March 16th.  They can be used if players are having a conflict in which they can't resolve.  If anyone wishes to contact the Peer Mediation Team, call Mr. Frank Wiley at Madison Jr. School, 973-593-3149, or 24 hours a day at 973-377-8469 or 973-420-8617.
